Fuel Feed Pump: Important AMVI Points
⛽ Main Function
Fuel feed pump supplies fuel from the fuel tank to the fuel injection pump through the fuel filter.
⚙️ Drive
In a diesel engine, the feed pump plunger is driven by the cam provided on the FIP camshaft.
📍 Location
The fuel feed pump is mounted on the fuel injection pump, commonly called FIP.
🔁 Working Idea
Downward and upward movement of the plunger creates suction and pressure to move fuel forward.
Simple Working of Fuel Feed Pump
- It is mounted on the fuel injection pump and driven by the camshaft of FIP.
- The feed pump plunger is operated by a cam through roller tappet and pressure spindle.
- When the plunger moves downward, fuel from the suction chamber moves to the pressure chamber through the pressure valve.
- When the plunger moves upward by spring force, fuel in the pressure chamber is pressurized.
- Then fuel moves from the pressure chamber to the FIP through the filter.
- During upward movement, suction valve opens and fuel from the tank enters the suction chamber.
